Scottish Intensive Care Society Evidence-Based Medicine Group Home Page
Introduction Welcome to the Scottish Intensive Care Society (SICS) Evidence-Based Medicine Group (EBMG) home page. The EBMG was formed in 2001 to provide Intensive Care Units in Scotland with an evidence based medicine resource. If you are logging onto this site for the first time then you probably belong to one of two camps. You may be an EBM convert already. If that's the case then hopefully you will find the rest of the site of interest. On the other hand, you could be an EBM sceptic who's thinking 'not more EBM'. If so, then give us a chance and we may be able to change your mind. At least this site will give you more material for debates with your non-sceptic colleagues! Remember what EBM is:
'Evidence-Based Medicine is the enhancement of a clinician's traditional skills in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and related areas through the systemic framing of relevant and answerable questions and the use of mathematical estimates of probability and risk' (A. Donald & T. Greenhalgh 2000)
In other words, the idea is not to replace common sense but to enhance it.
